Tim Lewis

Tim was raised in the small, Southern Indiana town of Spencer. Although not particularly interested in art as a youth, he always enjoyed artistic endeavors: drawing cars, customizing plastic car models, painting senior cords, etc.

After high school graduation, he was accepted into the Purdue University School of Engineering and pursued a degree in Electrical Engineering for 2-1/2 years. After realizing his talents ran more towards graphics than calculus, he changed majors and graduated with an Associate Degree in Technical Illustration.

Following a few years of working for a sign company, drawing maps and working as a product designer, he was recruited into the manufacturing world and spent the remainder of his working career managing injection molding companies.

Upon retirement in 2014 his interest in art was rekindled by a gift of a watercolor painting kit from his adult children. Since he had no experience in watercolors he enrolled in a beginning class at the Shelby Art Guild Association and became addicted to the medium. As a result of his technical illustration background, his work can be described as “realism” and is usually very detailed.

Tim has artwork regularly on display at the Art IN Hand Gallery in Zionsville, Shelby Art Guild Association’s Gallery in Shelbyville, The Dragonfly Gallery in Spencer, Generations Art and Frame in Franklin and the Southside Art League’s Off-Broadway Gallery in Greenwood. He is a member of the Art IN Hand Gallery, Shelby Art Guild Association, the Southside Art League, the Watercolor Society of Indiana, the Bloomington Watercolor Society and Indiana Heritage Arts. He has had several solo shows and regularly enters competitive events around Central Indiana where he has won several awards for his work. He now works out of a studio in his home in Indianapolis and is available for commission work.
